Wang Yun-Yu is a native of Taiwan and received an MFA from the University of Illinois – Champaign (1983). Wang is a founding dancer of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and has danced with the company between 1973 – 1981. Yunyu is a certified Labanotation Teacher (1984), Reconstructor (1985) and Laban Movement Analyst (1996). She has been the CEO of the ChinLin Foundation for Cultural and Arts, Taiwan since 2004.
Her research interests are in Labanotation reconstruction; analyzing the dancers between east and west; and dance education. Wang serves on the summer faculty for the Tsoying Summer Intensive where her choreographed and restaged works have been presented at the World Dance Alliance International Dance Conference in Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Indonesia. She was the Chair for both 2012 daCi/WDA Global Dance Summit; and the 2004 CORD/WDA-AP/ICKL/DNB International Dance Conference in Taiwan.
Wang was a Professor at Illinois Wesleyan University, the University of Georgia and Colorado College in USA for 20 years and was the Dean of the School of Dance at Taipei National University of the Arts (TUNA) (2009-2012 and 2015-2018). She leads a dance technology project utilizing Laban Movement Analysis to detect human motion and emotion, funded by the Ministry of Economy, Taiwan (2006-2009). She served as the President of World Dance Alliance, Asian-Pacific (2009-2017); and was the Chief Producer of 2017 Universiade Summer Games Opening Performance. After retiring from TNUA in 2018, she is now appointed as the Special Guest Faculty for Beijing Dance Academy.
