TAN XIN YEN was born in Penang, Malaysia and has trained in different genres of dance. In 2019, she graduated with a Diploma in Dance with Distinction from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She was a recipient of the Tan Chin Tuan Merit Award and M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival Scholarship in 2018.
While in NAFA, she co-choreographed I like the differences between us (2018) with Ernst Lim (Malaysia), and collaborated with Euriel Lascano (Philippines) to create A Cup of… (2018), which was performed at National Gallery Singapore.
Tan joined Frontier Danceland as a project artist in May 2019, became apprentice in July 2019 and was promoted to company artist in January 2020. She created filmic work, You are 56, still counting and keep counting; I am 25. (2020) and co-choreographed Elemental Beings (2021) as part of Dancers’ Locker 2020 and 2021 respectively, where the former made the official selections of Singapore International Film Festival – Southeast Asian Short Film Competition and InShadow – Lisbon Screendance Festival 2021. She also created Me with My Pet Dinosaur (2021) as part of LEAP 2021.
