Chiew’s practice is informed by the introspection of her biography, where she focuses on internal contemplative processes and draws from intuition to identify stimuli that imprint cognitively or emotionally. Engaging the body as the central medium, her works explore the connections and tensions between reality and imagination, and situate in the in-between of subjective truth and inventive representation.
She received commissions to create for Re: Dance Theatre, T.H.E Second Company, Dance in Situ, as well as LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore Management University’s InDancity and National University of Singapore’s Dance Synergy. Her works have been performed in Esplanade da:ns Festival 2013, M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival 2014, 2015 and 2018 in Singapore, as well as in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong.
Chiew has lectured at LASALLE College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and School of the Arts.
