Ma Yue Ru
Ma Yue Ru was born in Singapore and began her formal dance education at Singapore Ballet Academy and the pioneer cohort of School of the Arts Singapore. She later graduated summa cum laude from The Boston Conservatory, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance while on The Boston Conservatory and Anne Cuervo-Philip Pionelli scholarships.
She has worked professionally in the United States and Spain as a company member of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago 2, Post:Ballet, The Move Messenger(s), Present-Day Dance Theater and Danza Organica, among others, and as a guest dancer at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. She furthered her training with programmes at the Nederlands Dans Theater, Northwest Dance Project, BODYTRAFFIC, and Springboard Dans Montreal, some of which on grants from the National Arts Council of Singapore. She has also originated featured roles in works by Peter Chu, Alice Klock, Marco Goecke, Andrea Miller, Adam Hougland, Loni Landon, Dwight Rhoden, Uri Sands and Kuik Swee Boon, and has performed repertory pieces by Crystal Pite, Brian Arias, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon.
She is very grateful to be back home performing for her family and friends after some years away, and strives to always be sincere, curious and courageous as an artist. Aside from performing, teaching and choreographing, she's interested in the multi-disciplinary intersections between the arts and sciences, and hopes to delve greater into its research in the future.
