Mdm
Low Mei Yoke began training in Chinese dance, then studied
Ballet, Modern Jazz and Western Modern Dance. The tracks
of struggling and the cultural shock from shuttling between
the western and Chinese dance worlds could be traced from
her vibrant and original choreographies. From dancer,
to teacher and choreographer, her persistent conviction
is to explore a new direction for Chinese dance and a
new home for the tradition. In the new land of dance,
she strives to express true state of one’s innermost
thoughts and feelings.
In
January 1990, she was praised as an emergent star in the
field of dance in the 90’s by the Straits Times.
Her creative and talented choreographic works have provided
audiences with exciting and refreshing dance form, which
is distinctively Singaporean. Her highly acclaimed works
are “Refugees”, “Abortion”, “Grandmother’s
Tale”, “Cloud” and “Vanishing”.
